The company is recruiting a Principal Officer to oversee financial crime compliance, including suspicious transaction reporting to India’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND). A second vacancy seeks a senior cryptocurrency product manager responsible for developing spot, futures and options trading services across multiple countries.
The combination provides an unusually specific indication of Axi’s potential plans. Rather than hiring general compliance staff, the broker is seeking someone with direct responsibility for Indian virtual digital asset (VDA) reporting requirements while simultaneously expanding its crypto product-development team.
However, the vacancies do not confirm that Axi has applied for or obtained FIU-IND registration, established an Indian cryptocurrency operation or scheduled the launch of crypto options.
Axi Seeks Principal Officer for Indian Crypto Compliance
The newly advertised Principal Officer position, based in Bengaluru, sits within Axi’s Crypto and Trading Product division.
According to the job description, the successful candidate will serve as Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Principal Officer for the company’s trading platform.
The role explicitly requires filing Suspicious Transaction Reports with FIU-IND, acting as the primary contact for Indian know-your-customer and anti-money laundering matters, and ensuring compliance with applicable financial crime regulations.
Responsibilities extend to monitoring risks associated with cryptocurrency deposits, developing controls involving Travel Rule providers, implementing sanctions-screening procedures and managing enhanced customer due diligence.
The officer will also work with law-enforcement agencies, oversee internal compliance procedures and develop policies addressing virtual digital asset regulations.
Axi requires more than 10 years of relevant experience and prefers candidates who have already served as a Principal Officer for at least two to three years.
These requirements suggest the company wants an experienced compliance leader capable of establishing and supervising operational controls rather than a junior employee handling routine verification tasks.
The position also points toward a broader investment in fraud detection and transaction monitoring across crypto exchanges and brokers, where customer identification is increasingly combined with ongoing transaction analysis.
Why FIU-IND Requirements Make the Vacancy Significant
India requires virtual digital asset service providers carrying out specified activities to register with FIU-IND under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The requirements cover activities including exchanges between cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies, transfers of digital assets, and certain custody and administration services.
Under FIU-IND’s updated January 2026 virtual digital asset compliance guidelines, registration is mandatory for service providers conducting covered activities. The framework includes requirements concerning designated compliance officials, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and suspicious transaction reporting.
The regulator’s registration process also involves identifying a Designated Director and Principal Officer, alongside submitting corporate and operational information for regulatory review.
This makes Axi’s search for an India-based Principal Officer particularly relevant. Several responsibilities listed in the vacancy closely match the obligations imposed on businesses operating within India’s VDA regulatory framework.
The regulatory environment has also become more demanding. In September 2026, India’s Ministry of Finance announced non-compliance notices against 15 virtual digital asset service providers, including offshore platforms, and action seeking restrictions on their online access.
Indian authorities have emphasized that relevant anti-money laundering obligations apply based on the activities performed, rather than simply whether the company maintains a physical office in India.
FIU-IND registration should not, however, be confused with a broad government endorsement or authorization covering every crypto trading product. It primarily establishes the applicable financial intelligence and anti-money laundering obligations.
Axi’s precise registration status remains unconfirmed in the public materials reviewed. The vacancy does not identify which Axi legal entity would operate the proposed services or whether an application has already been submitted.
Second Bengaluru Vacancy Points to Crypto Options Development
A separate Axi vacancy for a Senior Product Manager in Bengaluru provides another indication of the company’s direction.
The position belongs to Axi Crypto’s Trading Product Team and involves building and expanding multi-country trading products covering spot cryptocurrency markets, futures, options and related services.
Its responsibilities include developing order-management systems, trading calculations, margin and leverage functionality, pricing models, application interfaces and risk-management processes.
The vacancy is notable because Axi’s existing global trading platform publicly markets three cryptocurrency offerings: spot crypto, perpetual futures and crypto CFDs.
Its platform currently advertises access to 20 cryptocurrencies for spot ownership, more than 150 crypto perpetual contracts and over 30 cryptocurrency CFDs. Crypto options are not presented as a separate existing product category.
The job advertisement therefore suggests that options trading may be part of Axi’s product-development plans, although it does not establish whether a launch has been approved or which jurisdictions might receive the service.
Options would represent a meaningful addition to the company’s existing derivatives range. Unlike crypto perpetual futures, which involve leverage and periodic funding payments, options provide contractual rights whose values are influenced by expiry dates, volatility and other pricing factors.
That difference requires additional trading infrastructure, risk controls and customer disclosures.
Why the Two Hiring Decisions Matter Together
Individually, neither advertisement would prove a major strategic expansion. Financial firms routinely hire compliance professionals, while product managers often work on ideas that never reach customers.
But the combination is more revealing.
Axi is recruiting someone capable of managing Indian crypto compliance obligations at the same time it is building a team responsible for multiple categories of cryptocurrency trading products.
Both positions fall under the same Crypto and Trading Product division, suggesting that regulatory readiness and product development are being addressed within the same broader business area.
There is still an important alternative explanation: Axi could be using Bengaluru as a technology and compliance hub supporting international operations rather than preparing to serve Indian retail customers directly.
That possibility cannot be dismissed simply because one vacancy mentions FIU-IND. The identity of the operating entity, the location of its customers and the services it actually provides would determine which regulatory obligations apply.
Nevertheless, the specificity of the Principal Officer responsibilities makes this a stronger signal than a generic international compliance recruitment campaign.
India Could Offer Scale, but Compliance Creates a Barrier
For Axi, cryptocurrency trading offers a potential way to diversify beyond traditional forex and CFD brokerage.
Spot trading can attract customers interested in owning digital assets, while perpetual futures and options appeal to traders seeking leverage, hedging or more sophisticated strategies.
Expanding across these categories could increase customer activity and create additional opportunities to generate trading-related revenue. It could also increase the operational complexity associated with custody, liquidity, margin management and regulatory supervision.
India presents an interesting opportunity because of its large digitally connected population and established cryptocurrency trading community. But its regulatory requirements mean market entry is not simply a question of launching an app or advertising new instruments.
Customer onboarding, transaction surveillance, suspicious activity reporting, banking access and tax considerations can all influence the economics of a local business.
The distinction between international brokerage permissions and local obligations is particularly important. As explored in our guide to offshore forex brokers and cross-border regulatory risks, authorization in one jurisdiction does not automatically establish permission to provide every financial product in another.
For investors assessing Axi’s direction, successful compliance preparation could support future market access, but recruitment spending alone is not evidence of customer growth or additional revenue.
Crypto Options Could Become a More Important Strategic Move
The options reference deserves attention beyond the India angle.
Axi already combines traditional brokerage products with spot cryptocurrency trading and leveraged derivatives. Adding options would move the platform further toward a broader digital asset trading offering.
Options can appeal to customers seeking to hedge price exposure, express volatility views or manage risk through defined contractual structures.
However, these products also require reliable liquidity, pricing, margin policies and controls for potentially complex positions. Poor implementation can create substantial operational and customer risks.
The experience of regulating leveraged crypto instruments across different countries also illustrates why product availability cannot be assumed to be universal. Our examination of crypto perpetuals regulation in Europe explains how legal classifications and jurisdiction-specific restrictions can affect the services trading platforms provide.
There is no indication in Axi’s advertisements that cryptocurrency options would necessarily be offered to Indian customers. The product role explicitly covers multiple countries, potentially allowing the company to develop products for markets with different regulatory frameworks.
What Would Confirm Axi’s India Crypto Plans?
The next developments to watch are more concrete than the hiring announcements themselves.
Confirmation of an FIU-IND registration application, identification of the relevant Axi operating entity or publication of India-specific cryptocurrency service terms would strengthen the case that the company is preparing a local business.
Similarly, a formal product announcement, updated instrument list or published options trading specifications would provide clearer evidence of an upcoming derivatives expansion.
Until then, the vacancies offer insight into Axi’s priorities without confirming its final execution strategy.
The distinction matters. Hiring a senior compliance officer is a meaningful investment in regulatory infrastructure, but it is not proof of completed registration. Recruiting an options specialist indicates product-development interest, but it does not guarantee commercial launch.
What makes this development worth watching is that both signals have emerged together. Axi appears to be strengthening the regulatory and technical capabilities needed for a more diversified cryptocurrency business, with India potentially playing an important role in that expansion.
